Chicago’s Own Renaissance Man

Chicago artist and creator of some of the most artistic and aesthetically-pleasing interiors, Edgar Miller was a truly gifted craftsman and artist.  Training briefly at the Art Institute, he excelled in watercolor, sculpture, drawing and graphics, but was also self-taught, mastering woodworking, carving, furniture making, ceramics and stained glass.  With a strong interest in architecture, Miller’s most popular collection is showcased throughout several buildings in Old Town.  Ceramic tiles, fresco, carved ceilings and staircases and stained glass are just a few of the features used to remodel these buildings and transform them into works of art.  Intended as artists’ studios, Miller worked on these masterpieces on and off for over sixty years.  Some of the buildings that were touched by Miller include 155 West Burton Place, 1734 N. Wells, the finials atop St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Hyde Park and the Walter Guest Apartments, among others.  The only fault to Miller’s fascinating and beautiful additions to the buildings of Chicago is that there are not more buildings graced with his art and sense of creativity.
